Inizieremo il nostro tour partendo dalla visita guidata alla cittadina romana di Concordia Sagittaria, fondata nel 42 a.C. circa presso l’incrocio della Via Annia con la Via Postumia, che custodisce anche oggi numerosi reperti romani ben conservati e ammirabili tra gli scavi a cielo aperto.

Terminata la visita, ci si appresterà a risalire in barca il fiume Lemene, attraversando la florida campagna della Venezia Orientale, per una breve navigazione ma particolarmente suggestiva. Attraccati alle porte del centro urbano di Portogruaro, ci si dirigerà verso il Museo Civico di Porta Sant’Agnese, quindi verso i caratteristici mulini di Sant’Andrea passando per palazzi affrescati, chiese secolari e scorci mozzafiato sul fiume Lemene, per raccontare la nascita e l’evoluzione del luogo.

La “piccola Venezia”, come la definì Ippolito Nievo, è una città nata sulle sponde del Lemene, un fiume calmo e pittoresco. Sorta nel XII secolo come centro di raccolta dei prodotti agricoli dei dintorni, nelle terre amministrate dal Vescovo di Concordia, nel 1420 venne annessa alla Repubblica di Venezia, la quale ne influenzò in maniera notevole la struttura architettonica e l’atmosfera urbana, facendone il più importante porto fluviale della regione. 

Le vie del centro, come tutti i giovedì mattina dell’anno, saranno ricche di bancarelle di ogni tipo ed espositori per tutti i gusti.  Qui si incontrano i sapori della Venezia Orientale, tra i formaggi tipici e i salumi d’annata, gli ortaggi e la frutta della campagna produttiva, il miglior artigianato locale e l’ingegno nordestino. Alla fine della visita potrete consultare online la lista dei bar e ristoranti pronti a servirvi il tipico “aperitivo veneziano”.

Il tour si concluderà con il ritorno in barca a Concordia Sagittaria o in autobus a Concordia Sagittaria o Caorle.

Boat trip from Concordia to Portogruaro: a visit to the historic center of the town called the “little Venice” and its local market.

Where: 9:00 AM in Concordia Sagittaria, in front of the Cathedral of Santo Stefano Protomartire, Celso Costantini square – otherwise, starting point at the ATVO bus station in Caorle: you’ll have to take the bus of the 8:00 AM to reach the city center of Concordia Sagittaria, piazza Celso Costantini.

Free Bus tickets from Caorle to Concordia Sagittaria will be sent via e-mail if you write down the request on the reservation.

Description

We will begin our tour starting from the guided visit to the Roman town of Concordia Sagittaria, the town was founded in 42 B.C. at the junction between the commercial roads called Via Annia and Via Postumia. Today, around the city you can find the ancient well-preserved Roman ruins. At the end of the visit, we will go up the Lemene river by boat to Portogruaro for a brief journey crossing the flourishing countryside of Eastern Venice. 

Our visit to Portogruaro will start landing at the doors of the urban center. Portogruaro, called the “Little Venice” by the famous poet Ippolito Nievo, is a town built on the  banks  of the “Fiume Lemene”, a calm and picturesque river. In 1420 A.C. the town was annexed to the Republic of Venice which greatly influenced its architecture structure and its atmosphere. Accompanied by a local guide, you will find that the buildings still maintain the Venetian style and the numerous canals and bridges make it look like the Venice of the hinterland.

As every Thursday morning, the streets of the center are populated by every type of  stalls where you can find exhibitors for all tastes. Here the flavors of Eastern Venice melt together, including typical cheeses and vintage cured meats, vegetables and fruit from the productive countryside, the best local craftsmanship.  The visit will continue in the Museum of the City, then – among the beauties of the historical buildings – we will find the third most leaning bell tower in Italy and then the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea where you will appreciate its beautiful frescoes. The last part of the tour is dedicated to an immersion through the streets and the picturesque squares. 

At the end of our adventure you could freely taste a typical Venetian aperitif  and get into the streets of Portogruaro to visit the big market, choosing from a complete list of bars and restaurants.

The return trip will be by boat from Portogruaro to Concordia Sagittaria or by bus from Portogruaro to Concordia Sagittaria or Caorle. Starting point at the ATVO bus station in Via A. Diaz.
